In Roman times this sort of extension of the Greek Agora gradually replaced the traditional one. It represented a complex architectural unit, consisting of a square surrounded by colonnades. Its arcades housed several shops. To the south of this complex was the library built by Hadrian in 132 BC. The main interest of this Agora lies in the Tower of Winds, an ingenious octagonal monument that served as a clock and sundial. In fact inside there is a water clock and its eight facades represent the eight winds in relief. The mosque in Fetiye, built in 1458 in honor of Mohammed II the Conqueror (the sultan who conquered Constantinople at the expense of Byzantine), is one of the best preserved monuments of Athens.
